Hooded Hooligans' Heist Hilarity Hits the Global Game Jam 2024!
This year I decided to join the Global Game Jam, and I was fortunate enough to become part of a cool and hardworking group. We had 48 hours to complete a game... Sounds fun, right? Absolutely! That being said, the short timeframe meant every working second had to be productive! This boils down to the foundation of every successful project in any discipline.

PLANNING
The week before the theme was announced we assembled our team , analysed skills, determined who wanted to work on what. With that we knew which resources we had and that also determined the scope and direction of what we as a team could achieve in the amount of time.

WE HAVE A TEAM AND A THEME
Finally, we found out the theme, and it was time to brainstorm what we would do once the jam started. Located in different countries, we knew that collaboration and project management would be very important tasks. Thankfully, we had Jinx to keep us on track and steer us toward reaching milestones throughout the process. A Miro board was our first order of business to collaborate with ideas and inspiration and narrow down our game concept. The week also allowed us to familiarize ourselves with some of the choices we made, like which engine to use and how we could best make use of what the engine has to offer, as well as consider any additional tools we might need to achieve the end result.
ENVIRONMENT A BEAUTIFUL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN 2D AND 3D
After deciding on using UE5 ( Both me and Cecilia are very comfortable at this stage with the new nanite / lumen workflow)
we decided the following
- we decided to do a modular kit for the bar
- some 3d assets to fill the bar
- 2d assets to fill the bar
- 3d characters with 2d animated faces
- Made master material that made it easy to drag and drop and adjust textures as needed

The operation quickly evolved into a highly streamlined process where the entire team worked in close harmony, ensuring we all grasped the vision and supported each other's success.
